Analysis: Presidential Proclamation

Late into December, while most families were still gathered to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, President Trump was issuing a proclamation that January 2018 would be focused on “recommit(ting) ourselves to eradicating the evil of enslavement.” No matter what political party you affiliate with, I think this is one thing we can all get on board with.

In this post on whitehouse.gov, the President lays out the horrors of human trafficking and the destruction it has caused on our nation and our world. While outlining the “darkness human traffickers cast upon our world,” President Trump does not leave us there to merely feel discouraged by this.

He continues on into an explanation of a task force he has already put together to combat trafficking as well as two bills he will sign into law (the Combating Human Trafficking in Commercial Vehicles Act and the No Human Trafficking on Our Roads Act) in an attempt to decrease the amount of trafficking going on here in the States.

President Trump also explains in this proclamation that awareness is a crucial factor in combatting enslavement, and urges Americans to familiarize themselves of the signs of trafficking.

As I mentioned, no matter what political party you affiliate with, this is one thing that we all need to stand behind our President in. We need to show that, no matter what our political opinions are, the value of human life and dignity is much more important and that we encourage President Trump, as well as future Presidents, to continue working toward eradicating human trafficking and slavery.
